Important notes
To carry out doctoral procedures as per the doctoral regulations approved by the Senate on June 13, 2012 (updated version dated July 13, 2016), the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Natural Sciences I – Biosciences, in its meetings on July 18, 2012, February 14, 2013, November 19, 2014, February 6, 2019, October 21, 2020, and November 29, 2023, approved the following implementation modalities:
- Original Contribution pursuant to §7 (3) of the Doctoral Regulations
An original contribution is considered to exist if the dissertation is written in the form of a monograph. A monograph typically includes the following sections:
(i) Introduction
(ii) Materials and Methods
(iii) Results
(iv) Discussion
(v) Summary
(vi) References
Exceptions may be granted by the Doctoral Committee if:
a) The supervisor provides written confirmation that collaborative work is justified by the research topic, and
b) The monograph explicitly identifies any collaboration with other scientists (naming the individuals and detailing their contributions) where applicable.
(Note: An original contribution/monograph should not consist of a collection of publications or drafts of publications.)
- Amendment to the Faculty Council Decision of October 21, 2020
The criteria for cumulative dissertations have been revised as follows:
Cumulative dissertations pursuant to §7 (5) of the Doctoral Regulations should generally consist of three or more publications, including:
Two original publications that designate the doctoral candidate as the first author, and
At least one additional publication where the candidate's contribution amounts to at least 30%, and which must be ready for submission.
The following template must be used to declare the authors' contributions. The declaration must be signed by both the applicant and the supervisor.
These decisions will come into effect on January 1, 2024.
